Grookey Smoothie Bowl | Pokémon: Sword & Shield

Yay, Grookey! A cute, monkey-like grass-type pokémon–and one of the three starters for the new Galar region in the upcoming Pokémon: Sword and Shield (late 2019)! Grookey seems like such a sweetie-pie, full of energy and curiosity. :) I really love the vibrant green color, which translates well to a smoothie.

Note: The measurements below are approximations. Use your judgement to get the colors and flavor how you'd like. :)
Also, instead of using a Nilla wafer for Grookey's muzzle, if you'd like it to be orange, use a disc of cooked/softened sweet potato/yam (you could use carrot, but it might be too small).

Grookey Smoothie Bowl

Ingredients:
Face Decorations
2 Baby Spinach Leaves
Chocolate Pocky Stick
4 Banana Chips in the right shapes for the ears & eyes
Nilla Wafer
~1/3 Cup Chocolate chips
~2 Tbsp. Plain Yogurt
Smoothie
~15 Frozen Pineapple Cubes
~5 Frozen Mango Cubes
1/2 - 1 Banana
1/4 Cup Non-Dairy Milk
1/2 Cup Water, divided
~8 Baby Spinach Leaves
Pinch of cinnamon (optional)

Directions:
Face Decorations: Lay out a piece of parchment paper on a flat surface. Melt the chocolate chips in a small microwave safe bowl at 30 second intervals, stirring after each time, until smooth.
Using a fork, dip 2 banana chips that are a good shape for the ears into the chocolate (1 at a time) & lay on the parchment to harden.

Break (or bite!) off the end of the pocky stick that has no chocolate, & then dip the end in the melted chocolate to cover it. Using kitchen scissors, trim 2 little spinach leaves to look more like Grookey's head leaves (more slim & pointy at the top). Put a little bit of melted chocolate onto the center of the pocky stick & affix the spinach leaves to it, holding it for a moment to keep it in place. Let harden on the parchment.

Scoop the melted chocolate into a plastic baggie & snip a corner of the bag to make a tiny hole. Onto the Nilla wafer, pipe 2 diagonal nostril lines and a smile*. Onto 2 banana chips that are a good shape for the eyes, pipe the pupil, leaving an oval space for the highlight (see photos).
* The Nilla wafer will get soggy before too long when placed on the smoothie. To combat this a bit, you can spread a thin, hidden layer of melted chocolate on the bottom of it & let it harden.

Choose a small bowl to use for the smoothie. Place the pocky with spinach leaves at the top edge of the bowl to see where it lays on the rim, & then squeeze a little bit of melted chocolate onto those 2 points. Replace the pocky stick so that it is sitting on the chocolate, & hold it in place for a moment until it hardens. Repeat this process for the 2 ears on the sides, putting melted chocolate on the rim of the bowl to hold them in place.

Smoothie: In a standing blender, blend the pineapple, mango, banana, milk, & 1/4 cup water until smooth. Pour out about 1/3 cup into a small bowl.
Add the spinach to the blender, plus 1/4 cup more water & blend until the spinach is fully incorporated (adding a pinch or so of ground cinnamon if desired). Add a little more spinach to adjust the color if needed.

Pour the green smoothie into the center of the prepared bowl, minding the decorations you've put on.
Carefully spoon the yellow smoothie onto the green to make the shape behind Grookey's eyes, across his face (see photos; it's basically 2 filled circles with a point going up from between them).

Scoop the yogurt into a plastic baggie & snip a tiny hole from a corner, just like you did with the melted chocolate. Place the Nilla wafer on the smoothie, centering it near the bottom edge (see photos), & then place the eyes on either side. Carefully pipe the yogurt onto the eyes, filling in the space you left for the highlights, & around the pupils, covering the banana chip. Use a toothpick in a swirling motion to get smooth edges. Serve with a spoon or a smoothie straw & enjoy!
